Cost Optimization

Stop overpaying for cloud you don’t use. The Cost module tracks your spend every day and turns it into concrete, confidence-scored recommendations.

What it is

Daily cost collection plus five analyzers that look for waste, missized resources, and savings opportunities across your infrastructure.

What you get

  • Daily cost tracking — summary, trends, and breakdown
  • Waste detection — idle EBS volumes, old snapshots, unattached IPs, stopped instances
  • Right-sizing recommendations — based on real utilization
  • Storage optimization — modern volume types (e.g. gp2→gp3, io1→io2)
  • Cost anomaly detection — spots spend that breaks your recent baseline
  • Reserved Instance / Savings Plan gap analysis — with purchase recommendations
  • Confidence-scored recommendations — each rated 0–100 so you know what to act on first

How to enable

Available on the Business and Complete packages, or as an add-on to any plan. Ask your Vigil team to turn it on. Requires a connected cloud account.

How to read it

  • Cost summary — where your money goes, and how it’s trending.
  • Recommendations — ranked by confidence and estimated impact; each explains what to change and why.
  • Anomalies — flagged with severity so you can catch a runaway bill early.

FAQ

Will Vigil change my resources automatically? No. The module surfaces recommendations. Implementation is done deliberately — by your team, or by your Vigil engineers on a managed plan.

How does anomaly detection work? It compares current spend against a rolling baseline of recent days and flags significant deviations, tiered by severity.

Which clouds are supported? AWS, Azure, GCP, and DigitalOcean.
